Europe as a tourist destination was totally re-written with the destruction of the Berlin Wall in 1989. Gradually, particularly over the last 10 years huge parts of Europe have been opened up to mass tourism for the first time in living memory. Romania, Poland, Slovakia are wonderful countries now rapidly moving towards mainstream European tourism.
