Waitangi Day

New Zealand’s national day is Waitangi Day – celebrated on 6 February. Waitangi is the small town in the far north where the Treaty was signed between the indigenous Maori chiefs and the British settlers. Although the treaty has been argued over ever since, Waitangi Day is now a pleasant, though somewhat low key national holiday.
